Health Testing

At Pawz and Purz Maine Coons, the health of our cats is at the heart of every decision we make. We are a small, ethical Maine Coon Breeder in British Columbia committed to producing healthy, well-structured kittens with wonderful temperaments.

DNA Testing

All of our breeding cats are DNA TESTED for conditions known to the Maine Coon breed, including:

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKDef)

Hip Screening

Hip health is extremely important to us. All breeding cats undergo hip screening with X-rays submitted to OFA and/or Paw Peds for official grading.

Health Testing

HCM

All of our breeding cats are DNA tested and negative for HCM, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

We also take the extra step of having cardiac echocardiograms completed on our breeding cats. This added screening helps us make thoughtful, responsible breeding decisions and continue working toward healthy, well-loved Maine Coons.
